Always is the best love song I've written. With its avant guard synthesiser approach I've always felt that it would stand the test of time; it still makes me feel warm to know that Always was chosen by a leading music industry producer to play at his wedding ahead of tracks by musicians that he represented!
One of the reasons I feel that I could deliver the vocals - I did it in one take - was because of the voice coaching I got from Dr Dean Verhines who gave me Italian vowel based opera training that I've continued to build on through to today.
The song has a lot of space in it which gives the listener time to reflect on the meaning of the lyrics. I'd normally look for support from another player on guitar but I wanted to own the piece and control its delivery so played it all on synthesiser with the only support coming from backing vocals.
